Feedback of starting terms
- How to try and get all the starting terms possible.
This is a comprehensive example of how to get the starting terms for a site on self storage and removals. Using this url for lateral searches:- http://wordtracker.com/database/frames/loadframes.php3 Start off with some obvious starting terms on the topic, e.g 'storage' 'storing' and 'selfstorage' entering 'storage' to the box at the above url gives these results:- Go down the list and eliminate the rubbish there will be a lot of that, i.e. 1. storage (OK) 2. underground storage tanks (eliminate since includes 'storage') 3. advisor (irrelevant since not about the topic) 4. ust (clicking this shows nothing about about the topic - delete) 5. san (clicking this can't see anything about the topic - delete) 6. petroleum (irrelevant - not about the topic) 7. backup (irrelevant - not about the topic) 8. nas (click and see irrelevant) 9. devcon (click and see irrelevant) 10. raid (click and couldn't see anything about the topic) 11. storage area network (eliminate since includes 'storage') 12. fibre channel (irrelevant - not about the topic) 13. data storage (eliminate since includes 'storage') . . etc In fact you can quite quickly scroll down the list and just look for words about the topic. Most can be discarded quickly. Any others you are not sure about click and look at the popularity results in the left hand window and you should soon be able to see if they are about the topic. So working down the list I only see the following starting terms that may be of interest:- 1. storage 30. moving 50. selfstorage (doesn't actually include 'storage' as a separate word) 58. movers 80. homestore 111. relocation 128. store 203. mover 214. move Note that there are not many terms that qualify, most can be quickly discarded. Note also that I have used some knowledge of the industry to get the terms. You might have trouble with that so if unsure click the terms and look down the popularity list that appears in the left hand box for clues. 'Relocation' for example is a difficult one since it is related to storage in that people relocating may need to store property. Some common sense must be applied. Now lets try 'storing' and we get:- 1. storing (OK) 2. storage (already got it) 3. safety (nothing to do with topic) 4. programming (nothing to do with topic) 5. software (nothing to do with topic) 6. adsl (nothing to do with topic) 7. flash (nothing to do with topic) 8. store (already got it) 9. recipes (nothing to do with topic) 10. arrester (nothing to do with topic) . . etc Working down the list I only found these new starting terms:- 1. storing 56. containers That was quite difficult because any new terms were few and far between, most were irrelevant. Now try 'selfstorage', this gives:- 1. selfstorage (OK) 2. storage (already got it) 3. self storage (included with 'storage' - ignore) 4. self (clicking it doesn't yield any new popularity terms) 5. moving (got it) 6. mini storage (included with 'storage' - ignore) 7. rent (nothing about the topic) 8. buildings (too general) 9. ministorage (clicking shows this may be of interest - add) . . etc This section added the new starting terms:- 9. ministorage 14. warehouse 47. removals 52. warehousing 95. logistics 109. removalists 242. relocating So now our total list of starting terms comprises:- storage moving selfstorage (doesn't actually include 'storage' as a separate word) movers homestore relocation store mover move storing containers ministorage warehouse removals warehousing logistics removalists relocating Now we can try feeding back some of these to see if anything new can be dredged up. Try 'moving' this gives:- 1. moving got it already 2. relocation got it 3. movers got it 4. storage got it 5. move got it 6. packing I think this one gives some relevant popularity results - add it 7. relocating got it 8. mover got it 9. moving company already covered with 'moving' 10. van lines off topic . . etc From these results I added the following starting terms to our list:- 6. packing 17. shipping 41. relocate Now try 'movers' this gives:- 1. movers got it 2. moving got it 3. relocation got it 4. storage got it 5. moving companies included with moving 6. move got it 7. shipping got it 8. mover got it 9. packing got it . . etc This one didn't add anything. To finish off the process enter the remaining starting terms below (feeding them back) to the lateral seach box:- homestore relocation store mover move containers ministorage warehouse removals warehousing logistics removalists relocating packing shipping relocate If any new starting terms come up then they should also be entered (fed-back) into the Lateral search box. So in the end all starting terms will have been fed back and no new ones can be found. You can then be fairly sure you have a comprehensive set of terms with which to construct the blueprint using popularity searches for all the starting terms.
