Lateral terms tires example.

You have a lot of specific lateral terms!

If you click 'goodyear' you get:-

goodyear tires 	2107  	2009  	
goodyear 	1317 	1256

etc

So 'goodyear' includes 'charles goodyear' so you don't need 'charles goodyear' in the specific lateral terms list. Do you see what I mean? Try clicking them and the popularity search comes up, then you can see more of what is going on.

All specific lateral terms that include a previous simpler term can be ignored, for example 'bridgestone firestone' can be ignored because it contains 'firestone' which appears in your list too.

However 'goodyear.com' does not come up in a popularity search for 'goodyear' so you need to keep it as a specific lateral term. You can figure all this out by clicking each item in the Lateral search results and looking at the Popularity results.

After simplifying your list please click on each one (as they appear in the Lateral search) so that the popularity search (with scores) appears in the right hand box. If you don't understand this please ask. You can add suitable results from that to the blueprint. You will have to decide on a threshold score below which you ignore terms. I suggest you use common sense for this - we don't want silly terms.

Alternatively you can use the Popularity url and enter specific lateral terms in the box:-

I can't really explain it much better than this. If you don't understand something about the concept of specific lateral terms and the popularity search and what we are trying to achieve with all this please ask.

With the lateral terms we are just trying to get some ideas of what terms to use for the popularity searches.

If you try the popularity search with 'wheel' and then 'wheels' you will see the results are the same. So you can delete 'wheels' say. Plurals can usually be deleted from the specific lateral terms list if the singular exists, however it might be best to check just in case.

It is the popularity search we are really interested in since that is used for the blueprint. The lateral terms are just a way to get clues as to what terms to use for the popularity searches.

I am sorry this may appear complex but there is no other way I can think to do it. It is a bit like detective work trying to get ideas for the tires topic.

'continental' is a general term and is not going to help us. To see what I mean click it and you will get this:-

which has nothing to do with tires except 'continental tires' and that one is covered by the 'tires' entry of course. Poularity search for 'tires' gives:-

and includes 'continental tires' as you can see. So you can remove 'continental' from the specific lateral terms list sdince it is irrelevant and included with the 'tires' term anyway.

Do you get the picture of what we are trying to do?

You can delete 'regatta' since the pop search gives:-

Please have another go to produce the (shorter) specific lateral terms list. Another thing we don't want terms that give irrelevant or very low popularity scores.
