Google researching.

There was a page http://www.Fax-Machines.com/Brother_Fax_Machine_Arlington.htm which apparently they couldn't find any information about. It was because Arlington is not a type of fax machine but rather Arlington Industries provide accessories like printer ribbon for fax machines. The researcher gave up too soon and didn't have the right google researching skills. This section indicates how to get to the bottom of a difficult title like "Brother Fax Machine Arlington". GOOGLE SEARCH 1. Brother Fax Machine Arlington (no quotes) The top result:- http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000AH5GA?v=glance is a long amazon page and it is not obvious where the term Arlington is. Therefore (in IE) do Edit + "Find (on this page)" Arlington and it shows you that Arlington was just part of the address of a reviewer. So that doesn't help us, except to point out that Arlington is also a place in Texas. Take the next google result down:- http://www.rechargermag.com/news.asp?id=200310502 and this tells us that Arlington Industries make "toners and inkjet cartridges for inkjet and laser printers, photocopiers and fax machines" and Arlington "sells branded, original equipment for Hewlett-Packard, Lexmark, Xerox, Canon, Sony, Brother, Sharp and Panasonic" so this is very likely what we are looking for. Further results on this google results page don't help. So lets try a quoted google search i.e. GOOGLE SEARCH 2. "Brother Fax Machine Arlington" ------------------------------------------------ Very few results and nothing that helps except to point out there are scam type websites trying to cover this title too providing no real info on the title. They are likely trying to cover it because it has a popularity rating in Wordtracker. Now lets try putting quotes around sensible subsections of the title, e.g:- GOOGLE SEARCH 3. "Brother Fax Machine" Arlington ------------------------------------------------ This looks for "Brother Fax Machine" but separates it from Arlington. There is a result about the fourth down:- http://www.eprintersupplies.us/detail.aspx?ID=225 that lists an Arlington printer ribbon for sale for a Brother fax machine. I am now convinced that Arlington is to do with fax machine accessories, and the company name is Arlington Industries. Go back to the previous result:- http://www.rechargermag.com/news.asp?id=200310502 and there is a load of info here, but Arlington were sold to Carolina Wholesale Office Machine Co. in about January 2003 for $18 million A link to Arlington Industries is http://www.arli.com/ and that link can go in our page. GOOGLE SEARCH 4. Carolina Wholesale Office Machine Co ----------------------------------------------------- There is info in this result. http://www.mccollpartners.com/carolinawholesale.html So a link might be found to Carolina Wholesale Office Machine Co if you continued the research. I will not go any further since most points are made. It is a question of using common sense and being a detective. So the problem here is that the researcher doesn't have the necessary researching skills nor has understood that Arlington is not a type of fax machine and/or gave up too soon. The whole point of our company is to sift through all the rubbish and get to the bottom of what people are looking for therefore saving them the time of dredging through google. The question is "what is the punter looking for when they type in the title" and it is our job to give information and links on the answer. If the page title has a wordtracker score of 5 or more I am pretty sure there will always be info on it. If not then we have to delete the title but only after your approval. ------------------------------------------------- An older email on google researching:- You can do the research however you like but the way I do it is to use Google. Copy the page title to clipboard e.g. 'Harvard Foosball Table' and go online to http://google.com using the IE browser. Then I would go to 'Advanced Search' and paste 'Harvard Foosball Table' into the exact phrase box then click 'google search'. Note how many results come up. In this case I got 'Results 1 - 10 of about 126', so 126 results. Not bad, so I would try looking at some of those pages for the research. We like a few pictures per page if possible. I would also go back to http://www.google.com/ and paste 'Harvard Foosball Table' into the box and try a normal search from there. There are more results and they can be better than the exact search. You can try other search engines, anything you like, even the newspapers/magazines etc.
